How It Works
From audio to tabs in four steps
Upload any audio or video, and GuitarMap isolates the guitar, transcribes every note, and maps it to an interactive fretboard — synced to the original performance.
STEP 01
Upload Audio or Video
Drag and drop a file, upload a video, or paste a YouTube URL. GuitarMap handles the rest.
- Audio formats: MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG, M4A
- Video formats: MP4, MOV, WEBM — auto-compressed to 720p
- YouTube extraction handles any public video
- Files securely stored in your account
STEP 02
Smart Guitar Isolation
GuitarMap analyzes the audio and automatically isolates the guitar track from the full mix for cleaner transcription.
- Spectral analysis detects whether audio is a full mix or solo guitar
- Full band mixes get guitar stem separation automatically
- Solo guitar recordings skip straight to transcription
- Toggle isolation on or off any time — your choice
STEP 03
AI Transcription
ML pitch detection analyzes the isolated guitar audio and maps every note to the fretboard.
- Powered by ML-based pitch detection (Basic Pitch)
- Note-by-note analysis: pitch, timing, duration, confidence
- Intelligent string/fret assignment based on guitar ergonomics
- Articulation detection: bends, slides, vibrato, hammer-ons, pull-offs
STEP 04
Play, Edit, Export
Watch notes light up on the fretboard in real time — synced to video if you uploaded one. Edit, loop, and export.
- Interactive fretboard with real-time playback sync
- Video sync: see the original performance alongside the tab
- Speed control (0.25x–2x) and A-B loop for focused practice
- Edit any note: adjust string, fret, or timing
- Export as ASCII tab, PDF, or MIDI
